Thunder Cake

Even though it didn't storm today, we still made Thunder Cake in anticipation for the storms tonight!  The recipe came from the book Thunder Cake.  The story is about the way the author overcame her fear of Michigan thunderstorms.  When it storms, remind your kids about Thunder Cake!

The recipe is coming home soon.  The class loved it (and can you believe there are tomatoes in the cake?!?)

Dolphin Tale

We just finished the story called Dolphin Tale 2-- I got the book from the book fair for $1!  The class loved it.  We even discovered that the main characters Winter and Hope are on a live camera.  You can find it at www.seewinter.com.

This picture was taken during play time... Can you believe it?!? :)

Chicks!

A tough ending to our chicks Lifecycle unit... We learned that our lone chick didn't survive the hatching process.  Our class was so sad and disappointed, myself included.  But Mrs. Dakins saved the day!  She brought in her own hatchlings to share with the class.  She told us about her birds, and even let us hold them.  We are so thankful!  The smiles tell it all.  Enjoy our photos from that very special morning.

Oceans Unit!

Today we kicked off our unit on Oceans! This will carry us to the end of the year. First, we learned the properties of salt water and held an experiment:

The golf ball in salt water floated, and the golf ball in tap water sank.  Ask your child why!

We made sure to record our findings.

We also read a book that said a Great White Shark is 20 feet long-- we measured with 20 rulers!

Chicks!

We are studying the life cycle of chickens! In a few short days, we should have 4 baby chicks joining our class. The kids are so excited!

Fun fact: we learned that all dinosaurs walked on their toes, laid eggs, had curvy necks, and a few had feathers... Chickens are living dinosaurs!
